A new beer club

By Chris

Everyone’s a critic, and in this day and age beer fanatics don’t exactly have a shortage of venues to voice their opinion. Whether chiming in with comments on beers we’ve reviewed , or swearing devotion to the likes of Beer Advocate or Ratebeer.com , there’s no doubt the overall community hears (or reads, I suppose) every review or rant loud and clear. Still, there’s always room for entrepreneurs to carve out something new. Enter DraughtClub.com , a new beer rating enterprise from a group of Washington, D.C.-area imbibers. Led by six administrative tasters, the site is essentially an online rating community with an emphasis on interaction. Without getting into too many details (beers are rated on a scale of one to six, etc) the major point of interest here is the site’s weekly Happy Hour Taste Competition. During happy hour, four to five similar beers will be tasted in real time and scored, and you can follow along at home while giving your input. This week’s tasting, slated for Friday night, 5-10 p.m., centers on American strong ales, with the likes of Stone Arrogant Bastard and Mendocino Eye of the Hawk Select Ale. It sounds interesting, and the seemingly cordial atmosphere makes this beery site something worth checking out.
